BESS Kaloyanovo is part of Sunterra RE’s long-term strategy to develop a high-tech and sustainable energy infrastructure in Bulgaria. The facility is located near the village of Dalgo Pole in Kaloyanovo Municipality and is fully integrated with the Kaloyanovo Solar Power Plant. The project is a key element of the company’s battery energy storage systems (BESS) program, designed to enhance performance and optimize the efficiency of its photovoltaic portfolio.
BESS Kaloyanovo has been developed in two phases.
Phase 1 delivers an installed capacity of 47 MW and 94 MWh of storage.
Phase 2 expands the facility to a total of 103 MW and 412 MWh, positioning it among the leading battery storage projects in Bulgaria. The system includes inverters, transformer stations, cabling infrastructure and an advanced energy management system, enabling real-time optimization of power flows in line with grid requirements.
BESS Kaloyanovo plays a key role in enhancing the flexibility and resilience of the power system. By storing energy during periods of low demand and releasing it during peak hours, it contributes to grid stability and improved price predictability.
The facility was delivered in less than one year, including the installation and commissioning of all major components, and stands as an example of effective integration of technology, engineering expertise and sustainable infrastructure.
