Battery Energy Storage System Galabovo

The Galabovo Battery Park is the largest battery energy storage facility (BESS) in Bulgaria and one of the leading projects of its kind in Southeastern Europe.

The project is part of Sunterra RE’s strategy to develop sustainable energy storage solutions and support the transition towards a low-carbon energy system.

Galabovo BESS has been developed in two phases.

Phase 1 delivers 75 MW of capacity and 150 MWh of usable energy storage.

Phase 2 adds a further 75 MW and 300 MWh, bringing the total capacity to 150 MW and 450 MWh.The system stores electricity generated by the Galabovo Photovoltaic Plant and dispatches it during peak demand periods, enhancing grid flexibility and stability while supporting more efficient energy management and improved price predictability. The facility is located near the village of Pyasachevo, in Simeonovgrad Municipality, and includes lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) battery containers, inverters, transformer stations and an advanced energy management system.

The project was delivered in less than one year, including the installation and commissioning of all major components.

With this project, Sunterra RE strengthens its role in the development of energy storage infrastructure and demonstrates the effective integration of BESS with renewable energy sources in Bulgaria.
