Sunterra RE Commissions Phase 2 of Energy Storage Facilities at Three of Its Solar Parks
Sunterra RE has received operating permits and commissioned Phase 2 of its Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) at the solar parks in Galabovo, Kaloyanovo, and Karlovo.
The competent authorities have certified that the facilities meet all technical, regulatory, and safety requirements for full commercial operation.
Following the completion of Phase 2, total energy storage capacity reaches approximately 1.3 GWh, while the combined installed capacity of the three projects exceeds 397 MW.
System parameters:
- Galabovo – 150 MW / 450 MWh
- Kaloyanovo – 150 MW / 506 MWh
- Karlovo – 97 MW / 320 MWh
The projects operate on lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries, which provide high operational safety, a long service life, and efficiency in daily operation. The systems enable up to 4 hours of energy storage at nearly 90% efficiency and are designed for 25 years of operation.
With the deployment of the new capacity, Sunterra RE expands its energy storage capabilities and continues the development of advanced infrastructure for more effective integration of renewable energy sources into the national power system.
The facilities allow generated energy to be stored and fed into the grid during periods of peak consumption, enhancing the stability, flexibility, and efficiency of the electricity system.
The Phase 2 projects were realized through the company's own investment and are part of Sunterra RE's long-term strategy for developing sustainable clean energy production and storage solutions.
